What we do - Outplaced until now  |  Wednesday, 19 October 2011

In the past years, we have outplaced 2 porcupines and more recently 2 dingo’s into this spacious, beautiful park in the north of Spain. The outplacement of this group of crab-eating macaques had been planned for a long time already, as we started this project in 2008. After a completely new accommodation had been built for these animals in Karpin, the date of transport had to be modified a number of times due to several different developments within the group.

Abri and JokoFinally, Wednesday October 13th was the big day and the 8 monkeys were sent off on this rather long road transport. After almost 24 hours, the animals and their 2 caregivers arrived in Karpin. 2 days earlier, the animal caregivers Liz and Peggy, who were to drive the last part of the trip until their destination, had already arrived halfway France, to prepare themselves for the nocturnal take over. Liz stayed in Karpin for another 6 days to teach the caregivers there all about these animals and to make sure the transfer would be to everyone’s satisfaction. While the monkeys were getting used to their new indoor accommodation, the last modifications were made to their outdoor enclosure. After this, they were invited to go outside and they acted like they had lived there for years already!
