Lilongwe Wildlife Centre is a rescue centre AAP has been working with for several years. In 2009 we outplaced a number of vervet monkeys to Lilongwe. A group of baboons was supposed to travel with them, but that fell through at the last minute as the group suddenly fell apart. Behavioural specialists and animal caretakers went back to work to form a new stable group, and thus, early April 2011, were we able to fly 6 baboons to Africa; Bento, Louis, Cira, Jacha, Tucan and Zusje.
This website shows a six-part video diary (in Dutch) on this outplacement, escorted by director David van Gennep. Noteworthy is the fact that Jasper Iepema (for years team leader of our primate department) moved to Lilongwe almost at the same time and… is working there as manager!
