Siberian Chipmunk

The Siberian Chipmunk ranges from Siberia to South East Asia. Just like all other Sciuridae it is a rodent, and being a chipmunk an excavator as well (it makes food caches in the ground).

Being small and pretty Siberian Chipmunk look exceptionally caressable. No wonder that especially children love to have them as a pet. Or better still, have two of them, in order for the animal to have some company. However, the loving purchaser generally knows too little about the nature of his or her new play mate. Squirrels are solitary animals that, except in the mating season, do no tolerate peers on their territory. The cage, equipped with care, will become a place of carnage in no time. Not only are Siberian Chipmunks a danger to each other, also to their owners. To defend their living area, they attack everyone who even just lays a finger there, which turns cleaning their cage into a cumbersome task. Because they want to bury their food, they will turn over plant pots and make holes in banks and carpets.
