Getting well in quarantine |
|
Our quarantine contains several closed units, where the animals are usualy housed alone. Caretakers have to work according to strict hygiene rules. Contamination of personnel or other animals must be avoided at all times. Especially primates can carry nasty diseases that are dangerous to people, like Tuberculosis, HIV and Hepatitis C. Raccoons and skunks can carry a dangerous round worm.
Teddy bearsMany animals need extra care. When a baby monkey misses its mother, it gets a Teddy bear. To distract a lonely chimpanzee, it can help to put on some music or a video. After quarantine, primates move to te Primate hall and begin their resocialisation process. The other mammals move to the Mammal department, where they can meet others of their kind. If they are solitary animals, they get a nice enclosure all to themselves.
