Sitas' spring

During the one and a half year Sita is living in Primadomus shelter in Spain, she had not been outside yet. Our handicapped lady was too afraid to make the descent through the passage from the indoor to the outdoor enclosure. Additionally she grabbed the live wire that protects the passage at one time, so Sita definitely made up her mind: never would she enter the unknown outside world.

Sita is outside This is all very understandable considering the fact that when Sita was rescued from the little Belgian Zoo, she had lived in a very small cage for so long her legs were litteraly stuck to her body: there were smelly skin spots also called intertrigo on her body from where her legs had been pressed against her upper body. Due to this situation her legs obviously had not been given a chance to grow properly and her muscles were also underdeveloped.

Will power

At AAP Sita managed to learn to move a lot better thanks to the help of our caretakers and her own persistence and iron will power. Because her legs are still weak, she needs to use her very strong arms to compensate. This makes Sita a climber and not a walker, running is of course even more difficult for her. In the open fields of the outside enclosures of Primadomus she has a much lesser chance of defending herself. This she must have known even before her caretakers did.

What to do now?

What to do now? Sita did not come to Primadomus to stay indoors for the rest of her life… Meetings took place, drawings were made and the idea of a specially designed 'Sita track' became reality! From the passage of the inside shelter the track leads to a place overgrown and wooded so Sita could grab hold of the greenery and feel more secure. From AAP in Almere a group of volunteers and co-workers went to Primadomus to do various jobs including the realization of Sitas’ track.

Good job!

Last month her track was finished and we can show you the result: Sita enjoying spring and relishing the Spanish sun. We are very happy with the improvement for Sita and are immensely proud of our Primadomus team. Good job guys!
