Rewarding work behind the scenes |

Not every rescued animal is actually brought to Almere. As soon as an animal has been offered for rescue a whole protocol is set in action. Step for step all the facts are checked, what kind of animal is it, when is there a place free for this animal in our quarantine, how long would it have to stay in quarantine, is the situation acute or can the animal stay where it is for the time being. Is it possible to find a temporary shelter address for the animal? And maybe most important , is there direct interest from zoos or reserves in offering this animal a permanent home. ![]() Diverse partnersObviously we can only ask the last question if we are sure that the animal is not in need of the specialist help that AAP offers. The creature must be mentally and physically healthy and used to being with other animals of its sort. Usually these animals come from a zoo or laboratory which is closing down, it goes without saying that the animal must be in no way infected. Quietly, behind the scenes AAP regularly intermediates between diverse partners in order to place an animal directly in a new and permanent home. Luckily this possibility occurs quite regularly. HelpNot so long ago this happened with a grivet and a grey cheeked mangabey, which were housed in an over full Greek rescue centre. Due to lack of funds and experience the centre had many problems, but luckily the management had the best will in the world for the animals and realized they must ask AAP for help. AAP decided to remove all the animals from the centre, however, considering the small capacity of our quarantine this was going to take a long time. Therefore, we began to look around in the world of zoos and reserves to see if there was elsewhere a place for some of the animals in Greece. The French zoo Espace Zoologique was interested in the two monkeys, and so not long ago they were transported from Greece to France. Espace zoologique is really pleased with Kalinga and Alice, the Greek rescue centre is relieved that pressure has been reduced and AAP is satisfied that the two monkeys could be quickly rescued. Intermediation is a rewarding part of our work!
