In November 13 Crab-eating macaques were rescued by AAP. Instead of names, they were identified by numbers by their previous owner. AAP started looking for suitable names for all the individuals. Because Crab-eating macaques are called 'Java-monkeys' in Dutch, we chose Indonesian names.
'Lunak' means 'soft' in Indonesian. Just like her sister Boneka, Lunak was kept in the infirmary by her previous owner. She was given Prednison on a daily basis because of alleged heart problems. She was very skinny when she arrived here. Her first medical check showed that Lunak's heart was perfectly fine. Therefore we stopped giving her Prednison, for which she luckily didn't show any withdrawal symptoms. Lunak is now eating well and she likes the enrichment that we give her. In France, Lunak was kept solitary. Here we introduced her to her sister Boneka, which proved to be a happy reunion. Now, nothing is in the way of a happy future for Lunak.
