Free aid for raccoons

News - News  |  Thursday, 05 August 2010

Less then two months after the arrival of the raccoons Towa and Tutelo, last week AAP again welcomed a raccoon from Cyprus. Thanks to the effort of the Cypriot animal welfare organisation, Animal Responsibility Cyprus (ARC), and especially the driven chairman, Kyriacos Kyriacou, this still nameless orphan was quickly equipped with the necessary health and travel documents.

Nothing stood in the way of the journey from Larnaca to Amsterdam, except for... the costs. Obviously we wanted to use our Air Miles to this end but then Cyprus Airways entered the picture. The airline was prepared to fly the young stray for an extremely low fare, even less than the fare they charged for Towa and Tutelo! Just as they had done with the other two, ARC then offered to pay the remaining amount. So thanks to Cyprus Airways and ARC, our new inhabitants were delivered free of charge! This door to door service deserves special attention, especially as Cyprus Airways is the only airline flying direct from Cyprus to Schiphol. With any other airline these animals would have had to change flights at least once, leading only to extra stress.

We would like to express our gratitude to Cyprus Airways and ARC for their help with this rescue.
