Exodus from the Mammal department

News - News  |  Monday, 31 January 2011

In December and January a large number of the inhabitants of the mammal department have left AAP for an even better future elsewhere. The outplacement of our four Coatis, Koda, Nariz, Fristy and Taia was really special because these four gentlemen took the plane to the Bahamas! They now inhabit a charming residence in Ardastra Gardens in Nassau, a zoo with primarily South American and Asian animals.

Ardastra Gardens is the only zoo in the Bahamas. The park plays an important role concerning nature education and welcomes approxiametely 15,000 students per year, who learn about the flora and fauna of their own region. We also must not forget the numbers of American tourists who during their Caribbean cruise want a taste of nature and thus learn about the importance of preservation.

Wide View

Two other outplacement concerned members of the “Dutch Eleven”, the group of White Eared Marmosets who arrived at AAP during the World Cup and were named after the footballers. Maarten left the magical number first, and went to Artis to keep Joy company after the death of her partner Paco. Incidentally both Joy and Paco were placed in Artis via AAP.In December the twosome Danny and Rafael headed off to Zoo Zamosc in Poland, and last week a group of four, two males Khalid and Nigel and female Elia with her little girl Babel, traveled to the Austrian zoo Haus des Meeres. After a period of adjustment behind the screens, the four can enjoy a wide view of the old centre of Vienna.

Happy ever after...

Lastly Kinkajou Cuxti Cuxti, who came to AAP in March of this year, will shortly be keeping a female company in the Polish zoo, Zoo Poznan. The introduction will certainly take some time because Kinkajous are solitary animals and don’t eagerly give their heart to another! Even so we are hoping for “Happy ever after!”
