Barbary macaque saved by AAP Primadomus |

On Friday, June 19th, AAP Primadomus saved its first barbary macaque in Alicante. It was a male named Izan and was approximately two years old. The animal lived with its owner. He picked it up from a petrol station, when it was still a baby and has cared for it ever since.
He approached AAP Primadomus to work with them to seek a solution. After all the papers and permissions, necessary for the transport to the Netherlands, were granted David van Gennep (managing director of AAP) Olga Martin and Eva Schippers went to Alicante to collect Izan. The farewell was very difficult for the former owner, because in those years a strong bond had developed between him and the animal. As he himself has said he wanted the most suitable environment for the animal and also the possibility to live together with members of his own species. On the same day AAP Primadomus collected a Capuchin monkey. Its owner moved from Malaga with the animal. This owner also wanted the best possible solution for his animal and its future life and found a partner in AAP Primadomus. The two animals were taken to AAP in Almere that same day by David van Gennep and Eva Schippers. Both primates are doing fine.
