Rescue in Almere (The Netherlands) |
|
The animals housed at our rescue centre in Almere, the Netherlands, have often been confiscated from illegal trade, were kept in laboratories for biomedical research, exhibited in illegal or disreputable zoos or used in the entertainment industry. Some of them were being kept as pets by private owners. (Click here to register an animal). At AAP, animals receive the professional care needed for their physical and mental recovery. After an animal has been registered, the urgency of its case will be established, and a possible date of transport marked. A waiting list exists for some species. Upon arrival, all animals are placed into temporary quarantine. Here they undergo extensive medical checkups and all necessary treatment. Individual treatment plans are developed, addressing diet, medication and behavioural aspects. After leaving quarantine, animals (unless solitary by nature) will be housed with members of their own species and the process of rehabilitation starts. Click on the departments below to read more about them.
Each animal's rehabilitation process is carefully supervised by a team of specialised staff members, consisting of behavioural biologists, veterinary surgeons and experienced keepers. When an animal is rehabilitated, AAP will endeavour to find it suitable long-term housing through outplacement within our extensive international network.
