Social groups on the Islands

Overzicht van de Apeneilanden

AAP established the Islands for animals that are difficult or impossible to outplace. The Islands offer enough space to house resocialised groups of primates for a long period of time. By using the Islands, also the Primate hall has more room for primates that need shelter.

Groepje berberapenAnother reason why the Islands are important, is because of the educational value. People can visit the Islands without accompaniment to watch the monkeys and learn more about AAP. Every wednesday and on weekends the caretakers give a short presentation (Monkey talk) at the Islands.

At the moment, the four islands are inhabited by different groups of primates: Barbary Macaques, Southern Pig-tailed Macaques, Hamadryas Baboons and Anubis Baboons
