The Thai animal welfare organisation WFFT (Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand), founde by the Dutchman Edwin Wiek, was recently able to rid a female crab-eating macaque of a horrible object. An iron arrow had punctured the animals' cheek and was in over four inches deep. Only with an operation could the arrow be removed.

Java-aap met pijl in de kopIt was remarkable enough that the inflicted wound dit not kill the macaque, but it was even more astonishing that she was so hard to catch. After ten days WWFT finally succeeded in darting and sedating her. Less than an hour later the arrow was removed.

The crab-eating macaque was probably shot by some boys that were known to shoot animals for fun, but there were no witnesses to confirm this.

The wounded macaque has recovered completely.
